Makers Row
Makers Row is a mixed-use commercial building designed to fit into the scale of the single-story commercial district while maintaining a strong presence on the street. RBA optimized the small, L-shaped, infill site with an innovative overall design: two perpendicular bars connected by bike storage, wrapped around an airy, light-filled courtyard. The rear of the building steps in from adjacent property lines, allowing for light and views from all sides of the building. Livability goals for the 19 apartment units focused on creating aesthetically pleasing, naturally lit, inviting apartments with high ceilings and large expanses of glass. Each unit maintains a strong connection with the outdoors, with access to the courtyard and available views. A majority have private outdoor space, and ground floor units have small yards. Designed by RBA and developed by Risa and her husband, they also teamed up with Energy Trust of Oregon to create a highly energy efficient building far surpassing their “Best” designation.
