Go inside 7 new or remodeled modern abodes: AIA Portland Homes Tour

Stop clicking around home design blogs. Close do-it-yourself floor plan computer programs and push away from that stack of magazines. Instead, explore seven smart shelters and talk to architects during the 2018 AIA Portland Homes Tour from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

The self-guided tour spotlights modular apartments, sustainable condos, midcentury remodels, high-performance houses and a small backyard retirement home.

The variety of styles, scales and budgets is wide but all represent a modern take on living comfortably in handsome, efficient dwellings. Each was designed by local members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to support the culture and climate unique to the Pacific Northwest.
